Long have I sat here in
Your woods.
My belly rumbles like
The thundering hooves of the
Reindeer, yet still there is
Nothing to eat.
So I pray to you,
Lady of the Forest,
Mielikki, daughter of
Tappio - or is she
His bride? The Kalevela
Isn't so clear. I pray that
You send me something
To eat.
A twig snaps ahead and
I see a little coney hop
Towards me. My
Hunger will need more.
'O Mielikki, Mistress of
The Woods, I beg you
Send me something bigger
For me to eat, lest
I starve.'
An hour passed and
The coney had long since
Hopped away, off to
Dig for greens under the
Snow. Then my ears
